Analogue has announced upgraded versions of its Super Nt and Mega Sg retro consoles, the Super Nt Plus and Mega Sg Plus, featuring USB-C and USB-A ports, built-in wireless connectivity, and hot-swappable cartridges. Priced at $219.99, preorders start October 19th with shipping in December.

Analogue Refreshes Its Retro Console Lineup

Analogue, the company known for its high-quality retro gaming hardware, has unveiled new versions of its Super Nt and Mega Sg consoles. The Super Nt Plus and Mega Sg Plus arrive with a "reworked industrial design" and a host of modern upgrades while retaining the core functionality that made the originals a hit among enthusiasts. Like their predecessors, these consoles use an FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) processor to perfectly recreate the hardware behavior of the original Nintendo and Sega Genesis 16-bit systems, offering authentic gameplay without software emulation.

While the new consoles don't support 4K output like Analogue's upcoming Analogue 3D for Nintendo 64, they still output at 1080p, ensuring crisp visuals on modern displays. The key improvements focus on convenience and connectivity, addressing common pain points for retro gaming setups.

Modern Connectivity and Convenience

One of the most notable additions is the inclusion of a USB-C port for power, allowing users to use the same cables they already have for smartphones and other devices. This eliminates the need for proprietary power supplies and simplifies cable management. Additionally, a USB-A port is provided for other peripherals, expanding the consoles' versatility.

Wireless controller support is now built-in, with both Bluetooth and a low-latency 2.4GHz connection available. This means gamers can connect their favorite wireless gamepads without the need for an additional dongle, reducing clutter and enhancing the user experience. Wired controllers remain an option, and the consoles can even be powered on remotely using the connected gamepad as the primary controller.

Another quality-of-life improvement is the ability to hot-swap game cartridges. After quitting a game through the menu, players can swap cartridges without fully powering down the console, making it easier to switch between titles during a gaming session.

Pricing and Availability

The Super Nt Plus and Mega Sg Plus will be available for preorder starting on October 19th at 9AM PT/11AM ET, priced at $219.99. Shipping is expected to begin sometime in December, just in time for the holiday season. Retro gaming fans and collectors will need to act fast, as Analogue's products often sell out quickly.

With these upgrades, Analogue continues to bridge the gap between classic gaming and modern convenience, offering a premium way to enjoy beloved 16-bit titles on contemporary hardware.
